Free Poker Bankroll Spreadsheet: Excel and Google Sheets Template

Download a free poker bankroll spreadsheet for Excel, Google Sheets and Numbers: session log, net result, hourly rate, bankroll and live vs online totals.

Most players who track their poker results start with a spreadsheet, and for good reason: it is free, it is yours, and you can make it record exactly what you care about. The hard part is building one that does the maths correctly and stays usable after a hundred sessions.

This one is ready to use. It is an .xlsx file that opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers and LibreOffice, with the formulas already in place.

What is in the spreadsheet

The file has two sheets.

Sessions is the log: one row per session, with the formulas already filled in for 500 rows. The header stays at the top while you scroll, every column can be filtered, and the Live / Online column has a drop-down so the totals split correctly.

ColumnWhat you typeWhy it matters
DateThe day the session startedResults over time, and the bankroll chart
Venue or siteCasino, card room or poker siteComparing where you play
Live / OnlinePick from the listLive and online results behave very differently
GameNLH cash, PLO, NLH tournament...Comparing formats
Stakes1/2, NL25, $55Your record of what you played
Big blind2, 0.25, empty for tournamentsTurns money into big blinds
HoursTime played, without breaksHourly rate
Bought inEvery buy-in, rebuy and add-on added upThe real cost of the session
Cashed outWhat you left with, or the prize
ExpensesTravel, food, tips, time chargeYour true result, not just the table's
Deposit / withdrawalMoney moved in (+) or out (-)Keeps transfers apart from results
NotesAnything worth rememberingFinding leaks later

The rest of the columns are calculated:

  • Net result: cashed out minus bought in minus expenses.
  • Net (big blinds): the net divided by the big blind, for cash games.
  • Per hour: the net divided by the hours.
  • Bankroll: your starting bankroll plus every result and transfer so far.

Summary adds everything up: sessions, hours, net result, hourly rate, average per session, share of winning sessions, biggest win and loss, expenses, deposits and withdrawals, your bankroll now, and separate net results and hourly rates for live and online play.

How to open it

  • Excel: open the file. If Excel shows a protected view banner, click Enable Editing.
  • Google Sheets: upload the file to Google Drive and choose Open with, Google Sheets. Or in an open sheet use File, Import, Upload. Either way you get a normal Google Sheet you can edit on your phone.
  • Numbers: open the file; Numbers converts it.
  • LibreOffice Calc: open the file.

How to use it

  1. On the Summary sheet, type your starting bankroll in the yellow cell.
  2. On the Sessions sheet, the first three rows are examples: a live cash game, an online session and a live tournament. Type over them with your own sessions; do not delete the rows, because the formulas live in them.
  3. Add one row per session. Leave the calculated columns alone; they fill in as soon as you enter both the buy-in and the cash-out.
  4. When you move money in or out of the bankroll, use the Deposit / withdrawal column on its own row, or on the row of the session it belongs to. Never type a deposit as a win.

The formulas, if you want to build your own

Everything in the template is ordinary spreadsheet maths. With the column letters used in the file:

Net result (K): =IF(OR(H2="",I2=""),"",I2-H2-J2)

Per hour (M): =IF(OR(K2="",G2="",G2=0),"",K2/G2)

Bankroll (O), without the empty-row check: =Summary!$B$3+SUM(K$2:K2)+SUM(N$2:N2)

Hourly rate overall: =SUM(K2:K501)/SUM(G2:G501)

Two details are easy to get wrong. The overall hourly rate is total net divided by total hours, not the average of each session's hourly rate: a two-hour session and a ten-hour session should not count the same. And the empty-string checks matter, because without them every empty row would show a zero and drag the averages down.

Add a bankroll chart

The chart is three clicks away and worth having:

  1. Select the Date column and the Bankroll column (hold Ctrl or Cmd to select both).
  2. Insert a line chart.
  3. Put it on the Summary sheet.

A line that climbs with dips is normal. A line that keeps stepping down after every deposit is the most honest feedback a spreadsheet can give.

Make it yours

Common additions:

  • Results by stake or game. Use SUMIF on the Stakes or Game column, the same way the Summary sheet splits live and online: =SUMIF(Sessions!E2:E501,"NL25",Sessions!K2:K501).
  • Tournament details. Add columns for field size, finishing position and bounties won.
  • Start time. A column for the hour you sat down lets you compare morning and late-night sessions, which is one of the more reliable ways to find a leak.
  • Rakeback. Keep it in its own column so you can see what your play earns without it.

What the spreadsheet cannot tell you is whether your results are skill or luck. For that, the hourly rate calculator shows the range your true win rate is likely in, and downswing or leak covers how to read a losing stretch.

When a spreadsheet stops being enough

A spreadsheet works well for a few sessions a month. It starts to get in the way when:

  • you play live and want to start a timer at the table and add rebuys as they happen, instead of reconstructing the session afterwards;
  • you play in several currencies and need conversions;
  • you want statistics such as results by day of the week or time of day without building them yourself;
  • you want the same data on your phone and your computer without copying files around.

That is where a bankroll tracker app takes over. PokerRoll is free and does those four things on iOS, Android and the web, with satellite tickets and multi-day tournaments on top. One honest difference from this spreadsheet: it does not have an expenses field yet. Switching does not mean retyping: attach your filled-in copy of this spreadsheet in PokeAI, PokerRoll's assistant, check the sessions it found and save them. Its columns are read as they are: expenses go into each session's notes, and rows that only move money in or out are left out. Whichever you use, the habit that matters is the same: every session, including the losing ones. Poker session log covers what is worth recording.

Frequently asked questions

Is the poker bankroll spreadsheet free?
Yes. It is a free .xlsx download with no sign-up. Use it, change it and share it as you like.
Does the spreadsheet work in Google Sheets?
Yes. Upload the file to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or use File, Import in an open sheet. The formulas, formats and the Live / Online drop-down carry over. It also opens directly in Excel, Numbers and LibreOffice.
How do I calculate my poker hourly rate in Excel?
Divide the net result by the hours played. Per session that is =K2/G2 in this template; overall it is the total net divided by the total hours, which the Summary sheet does for you. Use hours without breaks, and subtract expenses from the net first.
Can I use the spreadsheet for tournaments?
Yes. Put all entries, re-entries and add-ons in the buy-in column and the prize in the cash-out column. Leave the big blind column empty; the net result, hourly rate and bankroll still work.
Should I track my bankroll in a spreadsheet or an app?
A spreadsheet is free, flexible and fully yours, and it is enough for a few sessions a month. An app is easier at a live table, where you start a timer and add rebuys as they happen, and it does the statistics for you. Many players start with a spreadsheet and switch when typing gets in the way.
